According to information received by the Imperial Foreign Office, the ship-broker Andreas Bune, German subject born at Flensburg 42 years of age is reported to have been sentenced to penal servitude for life at Hong Kong, the place of his business,
The Imperial Foreign Office requests the American Embassy's kind intervention to the end, that with all possible despatch, information be procured in regard to the welfare and whereabouts of the above mentioned person, and that, in case of the correctness of the above report, the circumstances of tx under which his arrest took place, and the reasons for his conviction be ascertained. In this latter case it is also requested that the competent American representative be asked to interest himself in the person in question and to see to his obtaining all necessary assistance for the protection of his interests and the alleviation of his position.
The Imperial Foreign Office would be grateful for information concerning the steps taken and their result.
